Islamic organization stabbed church in West Java IndonesiaAs a Muslim who was raised and educated in Muslim family and environment, I've never been taught to do harm or hate people of other religions. Therefore, when I heard the news about our Muslim fellows stabbing an elder of a church in Bekasi, West Java, I quickly explained to my Christian friends that it did not represent Islam. Islam is peaceful.

It is sad to know that the attack which involved Catholic elder Sihombing occured just after the holy month of Ramadan.

Police have now named nine suspects on Tuesday, as reported by Kompas via The Jakarta Post:

The nine suspects are identified as AF, 25; DTS, 24; NN, 29; KN, 17: HDK, 17; HDN S, 18; ISM, 28; PN, 25; and KA, 18.

Jakarta police chief Insp. Gen. Timur Pradopo said in press conference the police had come to the conclusion after questioning 10 witnesses.

"As for now, we are charging the suspects with violating article 351of the Criminal Code on violence and article 170 on assaults," Timur said as quoted by the Jakarta police's official website.

Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP) leaders ST Sihombing and Rev. Luspida Simandjuntak were attacked Sunday morning. Sihombing was stabbed in the stomach while walking with a small group of church members on their way to a Sunday service at the church in Ciketing area in Bekasi, West Java. Simanjuntak, who went to Sihombing's aid, was struck on the head with a plank of wood.

Let's pray that religious tolerance in Indonesia will improve, and for Christian brothers and sisters, we do apologize for the attacks. Again, it doesn't represent Islam.
