Facebook Narcissits users study photos images picturesI'm not on social networks a lot. Facebook, therefore, is just a media for me, where I put a link or two of important pages, news articles and blog posts, and very often they are automatic updates generated by my Twitter account.

Tech site Mashable wrote -- according to a survey of 100 college students -- that young people with narcissistic personality traits were shown to exhibit Facebook activity that was distinctly more self-promotional. These people usually have About Me section telling how intelligent they are, and have photos that display physical appearance, rather than memories with friends or important moments.

Narcissism itself is defined in this study as "a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration and an exaggerated sense of self-importance."

The study shows that narcissists will exhibit more Facebook activities than average Facebookers and that their activity tends to be more self-promotional, either descriptively or superficially. The survey's results showed "significant positive correlations between narcissism and self-promotional content in the following areas: Main Photo, View Photos, Status Updates and Notes."
