Indonesian Ulema Council (Bahasa: Majelis Ulama Indonesia or MUI) is Indonesia's top Moslem clerical body which comprises a wide range of Islamic groups, including Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama, which is Indonesia's biggest Islamic organization. MUI was founded in 1975 by the goverment of president Suharto. As the top Moslem clerical body in Indonesia, MUI has an authority to produce fatwa, a religious opinion concerning Islamic law, and to give advice to Islamic communities.
